Market Impact (Draggers)
The Most Active (Market Movers) report is a traditional report most commonly provided. This however is a bit different as it focuses on the amount of value a stock has affected the PSE. For example, lets say 2 stocks are only traded, Stock ABC generated 100,000 volumes with average price at 100 each. Stock XYZ However generated 50,000 transactions with average price at 80 each. So which one impacted the stock market? obviously Stock ABC right? No it depends!
The market impact is based on how something has changes from its former value. Thus the correct formula to see this should be that we deduct the previous price from the new price and multiple by the volume. Lets say Stock ABC's previous price is 98 Pesos while Stock XYZ's previous was 5 Pesos. This would mean that Stock ABC affected the market today by 2 Pesos increase per share of 100K transactions, or 200K pesos. Stock XYZ however has 5 Pesos increase per share for 50K shares yielding 250K trade value increase. So if this is the case, Stock XYZ contributed more to the positive direction of the market.
This report list the stocks that mostly impacted the negative direction of the Philippine Stock Market at the trade day. Market Draggers could be stocks that just got hammered and may be an opportunity to buy in.
It may also be a falling dagger so check out its other metrics to see if the price decrease is temporary or something trending.
